John Boner Neighborhood Centers (JBNC) inspires neighbors and partners to improve the quality of life on the Near Eastside by providing tools for change and growth.

The Community Connector utilizes a two-generational approach serving all qualified students and their families and connecting to quality programming, support services, and positive role models in an effort to increase youth academic performance, social capital, health and wellness, and family stability, specifically growing the head of household's financial capacity.  

The Community Connector is responsible for working directly with families in the IndyEast Achievement Zone (IEAZ) to build one-on-one relationships, link them to resources & networks of support, and coordinate the enrollment and referral of families and children to services within IEAZ. This position will assist in coordinating community awareness efforts related to available services in IEAZ to ensure utilization of community based programming and engagement opportunities. Working within a cross-functional family services team, this position ensures the availability of program supports in the home for all family members that will support the success of the child’s academic success.  The Community Connector will work with the family to solve problems, plan individual, family, and youth goals, connect the family to Center for Working Families services at JBNC, and maintain regular communication with the family using a variety of outreach efforts.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruits, assesses and enrolls families into JBNC and available IEAZ programs;
  • Assist the family head of household and their family members develop an outcome-focused family achievement plan by helping them identify goals and finding personalized solutions to achieve developed goals;
  • Serve as the family’s liaison with other agencies to ensure a warm hand off and continuity toward progress;
  • Works collaboratively with all JBNC staff and community partners regarding community opportunities, services, and resources.  Attend cross-functional team meetings and community partner work groups as appropriate;
  • Support the family head of household, connect and navigate programs and services that will support their work to achieve family goals;
  • Record and track families’ efforts and progress toward goal achievement; gather and collate relevant data and maintain up-to-date and accurate records;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures to ensure effective operation of all aspects CWF services and community referrals;
  • Assist in the development of reporting and funding applications as needed;
  • Assists in the coordination of community awareness efforts related to available programs and services including, but not limited to, preschool enrollment, parent engagement workshops, behavioral health resources, afterschool programming, housing opportunities, mentoring programs, and others based on individual family and student needs;  
  • Works to create and maintain positive working relationships with families at school or community-based site.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, related to social services or education
  • Two to five years of experience working in social service/educational environments
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Works well in dynamic, collaborative environments and partners, both independently and as part of a team
  • Requires knowledge of the Near Eastside neighborhood resources and demographics
  • Requires strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Requires critical thinking skills
  • Requires the ability to build and maintain relationships with multiple parties including community partners, school staff, youth, parents, and colleagues

  • Requires the ability to be flexible in your day-to-day work schedule including the ability to work day, evening and weekend hours if necessary.
