Maintenance Technician

Position Summary:

Performs high quality maintenance and repairs to the John H. Boner Community Center's properties. This includes multifamily, single family housing units and commercial buildings.  

Essential Functions:

  • Development:  Assist in the implementation of various maintenance projects.  
  • Education/Training:  Is a participant during workshops and training projects
  • Operations:  Assists in operational troubleshooting and in streamlining work processes.
  • Program Responsibilities:
    • Plumbing Maintenance: Install water heaters, Repair or replace leaking faucets, toilets and other fixtures.
    • Minor Electrical Maintenance; replace light bulbs, broken switches, receptacles, ballasts, garbage disposals, etc.
    • Inspects and maintains HVAC systems
    • Turns vacant units for move-ins, including painting, cleaning carpets, drywall repair, etc. within scheduled time period.
    • Address maintenance requests in a timely manner.
    • Grounds work as needed.
    • Cleaning work as needed
    • Maintains time, production, and other record keeping and reports
    • Utilize computer to track and maintain records of key performance indicators
    • Supervises Community Service workers for projects
    • Completes room set up as required for group meetings
    • Routinely is on emergency night call.
    • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • At least five years of experience in one or more facets of apartment maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, painting, and electrical maintenance. 
  • Preferred certification/license in HVAC or willingness and ability to obtain HVAC Certification.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays and afterhours emergency call.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations including IOSHA standard, building codes, REAC, ICHDA and electrical codes.
  • Requires dexterity, frequent standing, bending, reaching, stooping, and kneeling; frequent lifting of light to heavy objects; frequent climbing of ladders and stairs; occasional outdoor work in inclement weather
  • Requires basic knowledge of safety procedures required in the performance of work assignments.
  • Requires ability to work independently.
  • Requires ability to track and perform multiple tasks.
  • Must provide own transportation.
  • Must provide own hand tools.
