Secondary Program Coodinator (Part-Time)
Position Title: Secondary Program Coordinator – EDGE Afterschool Program
Location: Legacy Center
Overview:
As a Secondary Program Coordinator with John Boner Neighborhood Centers, you will play a pivotal leadership role in our EDGE (Education, Discovery, Growth, and Excellence) Afterschool Program, designed specifically for middle school youth. In this dynamic and student-centered position, you’ll oversee the daily operations of a school-based site, coordinating programming that supports academic achievement, social-emotional development, identity exploration, and life readiness. You’ll work directly with program staff, students, families, school partners, and JBNC departments to cultivate a safe, engaging, and empowering environment tailored to the unique needs of adolescents.
This position is ideal for emerging or experienced youth development professionals who are passionate about mentorship, adolescent development, and building meaningful experiences that prepare young people for high school and beyond.
A Day in the Life as a Secondary Program Coordinator:
Your day might include:
- Leading a team of youth workers and specialists in delivering engaging, age-relevant programming for middle school youth.
- Designing and adapting enrichment activities that align with Indiana Academic Standards while incorporating life skills, leadership development, STEM, creative arts, and health education.
- Fostering a culture of inclusion, belonging, and positive behavior through restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches.
- Collaborating with school staff and families to support student success and align afterschool initiatives with school-day priorities.
- Managing day-to-day site operations including attendance tracking, student safety, behavior management, and activity scheduling.
- Coaching and supporting frontline staff through regular check-ins, modeling best practices, and delivering targeted training.
- Addressing elevated student concerns with empathy and professionalism, engaging appropriate support systems when necessary.
- Using data and direct feedback to evaluate programming and implement continuous improvements in collaboration with JBNC leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- Experience working with youth in an educational or community-based setting, preferably in a leadership or coordination role.
- Ability to pass onboarding requirements, including a Tuberculosis (TB) test, drug screening, background check, and CPR & First Aid certification.
- Availability to work afterschool hours (typically 2:00 p.m.–6:30 p.m. on weekdays), with occasional evening or weekend events.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust with diverse stakeholders.
