Position Title: Secondary Program Coordinator – EDGE Afterschool Program

Schedule: Full-time hours during summer programming (35–40 hrs/week); shifts transition to 12:00–7:00pm (or 11:00am–6:00pm) once school is back in session in the fall (29-30 hrs/week).

Location: Legacy Center – Near Eastside, Indianapolis

Target Start Date: July 1, 2025

Overview

At John Boner Neighborhood Centers, we believe that every young person deserves a safe, supportive environment to learn, grow, and build the skills that lead to lifelong success. Our EDGE Program—Education, Discovery, Growth, and Excellence—supports youth on the Near Eastside through academic enrichment, social-emotional learning (SEL), and engaging cultural and recreational experiences.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Secondary Program Coordinator to design, launch, and manage a new afterschool and summer program for middle school students. This role will play a critical part in shaping the future of the EDGE secondary program, from the ground up. You’ll develop lesson plans and enrichment opportunities, build strong relationships with school partners and families, and coordinate day-to-day operations of the program with support from the Youth Director and a collaborative team. If you’ve built or run youth programming before—whether in schools, community centers, or faith-based spaces—and love the idea of creating something that meets students and families where they are, this could be your next big move.

A Day in the Life

In the summer, you’ll work full-time hours (35–40 hours/week) and be actively engaged in our EDGE and PACT programs—supporting programming, building relationships, and preparing the new middle school program to launch in the fall. Your days might include leading an SEL activity, brainstorming project-based learning experiences, or meeting with school leaders and community partners to align on goals and logistics.

Once school starts, your schedule shifts to 12:00–7:00pm (or 11:00am–6:00pm), Monday through Friday. Your afternoons will be filled with leading hands-on enrichment sessions, running academic support blocks, and making sure Youth Workers are supported and prepared to engage participants. The rest of your time will be dedicated to planning, tracking youth progress, training staff, engaging with parents, and building partnerships with schools. You’ll be both strategic and boots-on-the-ground—designing the program and making sure it works every day.

You Would Thrive in This Position If…

  • You’ve designed and led youth programs before—whether in a school, community center, or church—and enjoy building something from scratch.
  • You’re comfortable being the “go-to” person: organizing, planning, adapting on the fly, and making sure youth and families are at the center of every decision.
  • You have a strong understanding of adolescent development and a passion for engaging youth through creative, culturally relevant programming that builds leadership and life skills.
  • You believe in the power of academic enrichment, SEL, and relationship-building, and you know how to build trust with both youth and adults.
  • You’re a natural collaborator who can work with teachers, principals, JBNC teammates, and families—and you see every partnership as a way to make the program stronger.
  • You thrive in dynamic environments and don’t mind rolling up your sleeves to solve problems, support your team, and make something great happen.
  • You bring strong communication, planning, and facilitation skills—and you’re comfortable using data and documentation to track program success.
  • You’re ready to lead a new initiative that could transform opportunities for youth in our community.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred; or 5+ years of relevant experience in youth development.
  • Demonstrated success in developing or leading out-of-school-time programs.
  • Comfort with behavior management and mentoring youth ages 11–14.
  • Experience coordinating staff, interns, or volunteers is a plus.
  • Reliable transportation and flexibility to support occasional events or meetings outside standard hours.
  • Ability to pass onboarding requirements, including a Tuberculosis (TB) test, drug screening, background check, and CPR & First Aid certification.

Schedule

  • Summer (July–August): Full-time, 35–40 hours/week
  • Fall (Starting late August): Approx. 29–30 hours/week | Typical schedule: 12:00 PM–7:00 PM or 11:00 AM–6:00 PM
