Director of Commercial Facilities
Overview
The John Boner Neighborhood Centers (JBNC) is seeking a skilled and mission-driven Director of Commercial Facilities to lead the care and stewardship of our diverse commercial properties—including the John Boner Community Center, Boner Fitness & Learning Center, and additional non-residential spaces. With responsibility for maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant facilities, this role is central to ensuring our community has well-functioning spaces to gather, learn, and thrive. The Director oversees daily operations, specialized systems, contractors, and vendors, while also driving long-term strategies for renovations, expansions, and capital projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader who combines technical knowledge with strategic vision and thrives in building collaborative relationships across teams and partners.
A Day in the Life
As the Director of Commercial Facilities, your days will be varied and impactful. One morning may involve walking through the Boner Fitness & Learning Center to oversee preventative maintenance on its geothermal system, while the afternoon is spent collaborating with contractors on the upcoming theater renovation or preparing for the 2026 Learning Center expansion. You’ll manage and support your team—including housekeeping, grounds, and eventually maintenance and security staff—ensuring they have what they need to succeed. You’ll work closely with leadership to align facility budgets with organizational goals, track progress through data-driven systems, and troubleshoot unexpected challenges like roof leaks or storm cleanup. Whether leading a vendor walkthrough, planning for capital needs, or reviewing safety compliance, you’ll play a pivotal role in keeping JBNC’s facilities strong, functional, and future-ready.
You Will Thrive in This Position If…
- You’re an experienced facilities leader who enjoys blending hands-on problem-solving with big-picture strategy.
- You bring knowledge of commercial building systems (HVAC, electrical, fire safety, security, etc.) and the curiosity to learn and manage specialized systems like geothermal energy.
- You excel at leading teams, mentoring staff, and building a positive culture of accountability and growth.
- You’re confident managing budgets, contractors, and vendors, and you know how to use data to make sound operational decisions.
- You value collaboration and can navigate multiple perspectives, making sure partners feel heard while ensuring JBNC’s priorities move forward.
- You thrive in a role that mixes routine maintenance oversight with exciting new projects like renovations, facility expansions, and capital improvement plans.
- You want your work to have meaning—supporting a mission-driven organization that strengthens Indianapolis neighborhoods.
